Chinese astrology is considered to be the oldest system of astrology in the world. Chinese astrology is founded on 12 animals and 5 elements. Everyone will be under the influence of an animal and an element based on the year in which he or she is born. Chinese astrology has nothing to do with planets and their actions. It explains one’s nature based on his or her birth year.
The origin of Chinese Astrology
Before thousands of years ago Lord Buddha himself had developed the Chinese Astrology. According to ancient scripts, on the occasion of the Chinese New Year Buddha called upon the entire animal kingdom for a meeting. But only twelve animals – rat, buffalo, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and boar – showed up for this meeting.
Buddha honored them in the order of their arrival by assigning them a year of their own. From then onwards, each successive year of the Chinese calendar bore the character of the animal to which that year was assigned. Those born in specific animal years are marked by the nature of their natal animal.
